STAYING SAFE

Always take public transport (bus, taxis), when travelling too and from a night out, it is much safer. No matter which city or which area you live in, it is always safer than walking. Always travel to and from venues with at least one other person, and never get into a vehicle with someone you don’t trust.

Go out for a walk with your friends during the day and become familiar with your new area and surroundings, things can look different when its dark, and after a couple of drinks.
Always remember your ID when going on a night out, you don’t want to get turned away on your own.
Be sure to line your stomach before a night out of drinking alcohol. Drinking on an empty stomach is dangerous.

UNever leave your drink unattended in a club, EVER! If you are attending student only events, then you are usually safe, but there is always the chance something could happen to your drink if you are not taking care.

Uni is all about new experiences but make sure you don’t get peer pressured into doing things you don’t want to do. Always think about the implications and that you fully understand what it is you are doing.

All uni’s have Councilors on hand to help night and day and there may even be 24/7 telephone lines to call to seek assistance If you are suffering from mental health issues or just feeling homesick reach out to a member of staff at the university, or your house mates / course mates who might be feeling the same. Don’t suffer in silence.
